The Quality Mark is a joint initiative between the DfCSF and the REC that the highest standards of recruitment practice are adhered to.

To achieve Quality Mark status, applicants undergo a rigorous assessment process including a comprehensive on-site audit. Reaccredidation audits are carried out every two years to ensure standards are still being met.

The Quality Mark scheme sets 19 standards covering the way supply teachers are recruited, selected & supplied to schools.

Measures that need to be undertaken to ensure safe recruitment include: -

  • Up-to-date & valid CRB check or be in the process of applying for one
  • List 99
  • Two written references
  • Permission to work in the UK
  • GTC Registration or the teacher must be in the process of applying
  • Health and identity checks
  • Face to face interviews against set criteria enabling the consultant to make an informed decision

As a member of the industry body for recruitment agencies, the Recruitment and Employment Confederations Education division Code of Practice provides safeguards for schools and for teachers and helps ensure that agencies work to consistent standards.
